Navigation

Learning the art of navigation with confidence and safety

This 2-day course gives paddlers the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to find their location and reach their destination in calm/moderate conditions. By the end of the course paddlers will be able to read nautical maps and prepare for day-long outings in unfamiliar areas. Participants may also experience navigating in conditions of reduced visibility by choosing the camping option described below.

Two options are available for this training:

Day navigation option:
The first morning is reserved for theory such as weather, map-reading, etc. The afternoon and second day will take place on the water where we will put theory into practice via different navigation exercises.

Night navigation + camping option:
The first morning is reserved for theory such as weather, map-reading, etc. The afternoon and evening will take place on the water where we will put theory into practice via different navigation exercises. Evening navigation allows participants to practice in conditions of reduced visibility, while camping gives new paddlers a introduction to packing a kayak for an overnight excursion. The next morning will be comprised of more exercises, ending the course around noon.
